How We Build Booths for Tech Exhibitors

A tech booth has to run live demos, host private meetings and pull people in from the aisle, so we plan all three from the first rendering. For Marvell at OFC we fit five private meeting rooms and a demo room into a 40x40 island. For Q-SYS at InfoComm we built four working rooms, each run by Q-SYS's own audio and video systems.

Every booth is built in our Cerritos and Las Vegas shops and set up in full before it ships, so you walk through the real booth and sign off before the show. That's Render to Reality™.

Tech Trade Show Booth FAQs

How much does a tech trade show booth cost?

Budget in three parts: floor space from the show, services from the show's contractor (material handling, electrical, labor, rigging) and the booth itself. At CES, a 20x20 island is $21,200 in floor space alone at $53 per square foot. Our proposals list the contractor charges next to the booth price, so you see the full number before you sign.

What types of booths do tech companies use?

Inline booths (10x10 or 10x20) sit in a row, peninsulas open on three sides, and islands open on all four. Tech exhibitors with live demos and meeting rooms usually choose islands, and the largest add a second deck. We've built everything from 10x20 inlines to a 70x100 double-deck island.

Should I rent or buy a booth for tech shows?

Most of the booths we build are rentals. A rental pairs our structures with your custom graphics, costs less up front and needs no storage. A custom build suits a large island, a double-deck or a booth you'll take to several shows a year. Compare rentals and custom exhibits.

What makes a good tech trade show booth?

Demos you can see from the aisle, a private room for meetings you don't want overheard, and a sign high enough to find from across the hall. Plan power, internet and screen mounts in the first design, because adding them on site costs more and the show's electrical deadlines come early.

What is the biggest tech trade show in the United States?

CES in Las Vegas, with more than 4,100 exhibitors. Other major tech shows include OFC for optical networking, SEMICON West for semiconductors and IPC APEX EXPO for electronics manufacturing. See our CES booth page for its exhibitor deadlines.

How early should I plan a booth for a tech show?

Start a custom island four to six months out, so the design is final before the show's rigging and hanging-sign deadlines, which often fall a month or more before move-in. A rental can start later, but the show's discount deadlines for electrical and labor still apply.

Do you build booths for shows outside Las Vegas?

Yes. Our Cerritos shop is close to the Los Angeles and Anaheim convention centers, and we ship booths to shows across the country, including InfoComm in Orlando and Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara.
